Ron studied Art at Bretton Hall 1971/ 73 . Then followed forty years of teaching as a classroom teacher and Head of Art. Upon retirement he became a full time professional artist specialising in printmaking and painting. He currently works from his studio at The Art House in Wakefield. Much of his work has been influenced by his work as a freelance Archaeological Illustrator. Consequently there is a mix of the ancient and folklore running through his work creating a narrative, often esoteric, which encourages the viewer to create their own narrative adding to the layers meaning within the work.
Ron uses Drypoint printing, Collograph and brush work in making monotypes, his palette is narrow and restricted to dark tones in order to create a sense of mystery.
His current work explores the potential of using TetraPak packaging as printing plates.
